Recipe for Change:

Every recipe needs love and kindness to transform lives. I am a Latina coffee entrepreneur that believes in the power of education and being of service to change the world. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico, an island full of possibilities and charms, where the spirit of resilience grows every day.
Thanks to the experience that I had working in the United States Congress and the World Bank, I am now able to make changes within my local community. I have learned that each of us can be a changemaker, and the recipe begins in our hearts and how we want to make change within our communities.
I have the honor of being the founder and voice of Friends of Puerto Rico, a non-profit in 2015 that supports the economic development of the people of Puerto Rico through entrepreneurial initiatives, education, and creating opportunities for women and youth. For me, the reality and the recipe for changing lives in Puerto Rico have been shaped through coffee, resilience, and education as a bridge to develop a new generation of leaders.

Here are my five ingredients to brewing changes in a new generation of entrepreneurs; the process is like brewing coffee:

  1. Start sowing in your heart and mind. Ask yourself: What are you passionate about? We need to study, immerse ourselves in what we like. I usually listen to podcasts, read, and look for mentors.
  2. Be of service. Being kind and giving back can change your perspective positively to focus on your goal. You can make every minute count, and create impact by taking on challenges that improve your community, protect the ecosystem, and build a new sense of citizenship.
  3. Adapt and be proactive. During these challenging times, reinvention is a must. You can be attentive to the environment to find solutions and ideas that help your business spirit.
  4. Do not walk alone. Share your knowledge, make partnerships. Networking is a great way to see new perspectives. Ask for help, we all go through growing cycles, and we need to work with specialists that will allow us to grow together.
  5. Enjoy and be persistent. Try and taste new experiences. The adventure of pursuing the dream of entrepreneurship requires courage, having fun, and being resilient. Make mistakes (it’s ok!) learn from them, and then get back up!
